Fashion Friday: 9th Edition

Happy Friday bloggies! It's been quite an uneventful week around here, lacking in content, and you have my apologies. Not much has been happening...I did turn 26 this past Monday. Unfortunately, it wasn't much fun--I wasn't feeling well--but fortunately I am feeling better :)

I love wearing tank tops in the summer, especially tanks that aren't too revealing. I found this cutie on Gap's website...and it is just my style. Plain, with the right amount of detail and fun! I wish it were available in additional colors. The best part is that it won't break the bank!

While poking around the Gap site, I happened upon this fun scarf. Now you probably know that I have a thing for scarves. They're a great accessory to dress up something plain, or add some "pop" to an otherwise boring outfit. The funny thing about this scarf is that it costs more than the tank! It is available in 2 other color varieties, but I liked this one best. The only thing I'm not sure about is the material--I'd have to see/touch it in person, but I worry it'd pick easily.

Last weekend, hubby and I went to Westfarms. I popped into Banana Republic to see if I could find anything on sale (found a top I featured here a few weeks ago, at 50% off!). I picked up these pants and took them into the dressing room. I got them on, and they felt great. Now I have a bad habit I'm not sure I've shared with you. That bad habit is not looking at the price tag until it is too late...and by too late, I mean after I've tried on said item and decided I must have it! Now like I said...they felt great, and I expected the price to be ridiculous, but fortunately they weren't too bad! I liked the cuff, and the pockets are sewn down perfectly. I got them in the color below, but once my self-imposed Shopping Ban is over, I might get them in another color.

While looking around the Banana site, I found this cute dress. If you have a hot date or special event coming up, perhaps this is just the ticket! I didn't see this in person, so I'm not sure if it is truly a "hot item," but it is worth a look.

I'm a sucker for cute shoes--always have been. Once, when my grandparents took me shoe shopping, a store clerk said "May I help you?" My grandfather replied, "Yes, we need the ugliest shoes you've got. Because those are the shoes she's gonna want!" ;) It is definitely no secret that I love shoes. In fact, my birthday card from my parents this year says "Happy Birthday from the people who love you...your family and every shoe store owner around!" ANYWAY!! I think I've mentioned before that I'm always on the lookout for cute flats! I saw these at Target--and they're only $20!! I might be able to justify these to the hubby as a needed item! ;)

Fashion Friday: 8th Edition

Hello dear friends! I've been somewhat of an irregular blogger lately, but I'm back today with another round of Fashion Friday! :)

From time to time, I read the blog JCrewAficionada. Let me just say I'm far from being an aficionada...though I wish I was! I find lots of cute things on there, but a blog I linked to from there was Gigi's Gone Shopping. Gigi tries things on and reviews them for her site. Because of her, I've found a lot of cute Target things (haven't purchased yet, b-day comin up). So to get us started, let's look at some pieces from Target, shall we?

I first saw this skirt on Gigi's blog. Apparently it is a knock-off of a J.Crew pattern (Copelle) from a year or so ago. When I first saw the skirt, I wasn't sure about it. I wasn't sure of the pattern--and different skirts will obviously have different patterns because they're cut from different portions of the fabric. I like the pic shown on the website because it isn't so "orange-y" across the front. However, I would only purchase this item in a store because I wouldn't know what size to get.

Of course, as I say so often...I wasn't sure what to pair it with. But as I was browsing the site, I noticed a blouse paired with the skirt. I especially like the keyhole neckline. Paired together, I think this would make a sassy little outfit! Kicker? Under $50 for the whole thing!

Another sassy little piece I found while browsing the Target site is this twist-neck halter. The site calls this Cherry. I don't consider it Cherry at all...perhaps they meant to say Berry? :)

Since I purchased something from the jcrew.com website, I receive a ton of emails with promo codes. Usually they aren't super enticing, because they're always for a minimum of $150 or $175. Well, I like shopping the sale section at J.Crew and usually don't want to spend that much. However, this last time I found a gem, IN MY SIZE. It was under the minimum, so I purchased a t-shirt to get the discount. Stupid of me probably, but I wanted the "gem" and I will definitely wear the shirt.

Anyone else wonder why she is wearing orange shoes?! As for this dress, I would much prefered to have the halter top. However, I WILL wear the dress and may stumble upon an Ebay deal on the blouse one day (doubtful).

Speaking of J.Crew and ebay, I found a gem there recently. The best part? It arrived the same day as my order FROM J.Crew. Good mail day :) I'm so excited to wear this blouse!

This next item is more of a Wish List item...because I'm probably NOTTT gonna be paying $168 for a pair of sunglasses anytime soon. However, I tried them on in the store last weekend and really liked them. Aviators are usually too small for my big face, but these weren't. I also love the Lilac color.

I just realized I don't have a lot of variety in my "fashion" posts. Many of the items I show you are from Target or J.Crew huh? Guess you know what I like :) I also realized I should probably clarify that I do NOT own all the items I "feature." In fact, I own very few of them! If only I could find a money tree...*le sigh*

So on that note--is there anything in particular you'd like to see? A different style, questions, etc? I'll do my  best!

Fashion Friday: 7th Edition

This week's Fashion Friday may be slightly boring for some of you, since there isn't a huge "variety" in the items featured. I'll try to do better next time, k? :)

First, I saw this great tank/halter/cami in a photo my friend Becca was wearing. I could only see a portion of it, so I didn't realize it was white on the bottom, but of course HAD to know where she got it. Thankfully, she told me ;) I'll be making a trip to the mall this weekend to look for it...and of course to Target. But the Target trip can be justified, because I have to buy a wedding shower gift. That is why I'm going.

But I'm sure I'll find stuff I despereately need while I'm there, because isn't that how it always goes? Anyway, Becca's tank top...isn't it cute? It is also available in 2 additional colors.

 

American Eagle: Floral Vine Halter Cami

While browsing the American Eagle website, I of course happened upon another little pretty. I have to see it in person before making the final judgment, because I'm unsure of this neckline.In the model on the site, it dips kind of low, exposing her Cleveland for all the world to see! To be frank, I have none of that, and I'd prefer to keep what I do have mostly under wraps! Anyway, what do you think?

 

American Eagle: Braided Print Halter

The verdict is still out on this next item, too. It is a "maxi" dress which seems to be all the rage. Here's the problem I think I would encounter. These dresses? Seem to be made for tall(er) people. At barely 5'3, I do not consider myself one of those people. Instead I feel like I might look a bit...uhh...draped in a circus tent? Seriously pregnant even though I'm totally not? Or just plain fat? I really don't want to look like any of those things, but hey, its cute on the website chick, so maybe I'll try it on.

I found another cute dress at NY & Company, but to be quite honest with you I have no idea where I'd wear a dress like this. I feel like I'm always saying that about particular items, but to me this says "going out and hitting the town," which I don't really do all that often if we're being honest. Maybe I'm boring; I dunno. Maybe I need to put some spice in my life! Anyway I really like the ruffles on this!

The last item is, go figure, another dress! I happened upon this one as I was searching for something to wear to a bridal shower I have coming up. Chances are, I won't be wearing this dress, because I don't know what size I'd need anyway (if I were to order online), and the closest White House|Black Market is about 45 minutes away. Who knows though, maybe I'll take a little trip tomorrow after work! ;)

In other fun fashion news, last week I scored an awesome laptop/briefcase bag at TJMaxx for $20! It had a red sticker on it, so I think someone had purchased it, then returned it without an inner accessory. Whatever, it was nothing I needed, AND my laptop fits! It is black crocodile pattern, and if you know me you knoooowww I love Croc pattern (my wallet, my Nine West shoes, my J.Crew cocktail jacket, etc). I've received so many compliments on the bag--people at work, my mom, my mother-in-law, a lady in the airport...booyah! $20 well spent people! :) I'll try to get a pic soon.

In other crocodile sale-related news, I got a super cute pair of deep red crocodile ballet flats at Wal-Mart for $5! I haven't worn them yet, because they're a tad floppy--the 9 was loose but the 8.5 strangled my foot. Dang you Wally World. Maybe that is why they were only $5.

Fashion Friday: 6th Edition

Hello hello! I bet you thought I was going to let you down A-GAIN with Fashion Friday, didn't you? I'm sorry I have to prove you wrong...even though it is 10:00 on Friday morning, but I have the day off and I was in NYC all day yesterday, so I seized the opportunity to sleep in. But now I'm upstairs trying to be super quiet because my husband is doing a phone interview so I thought I'd do my duties and deliver you a new episode of Fashion Friday!

Here is our first item up for bid...(said in my best Price is Right voice)

Our first item up for bid, ladies, is this lovely brown and turquoise (I first typed teal but I just can't bring myself to use that word) dress from Banana Republic. It would be perfect for a hot dinner out with your hubby or special someone, nice to wear to a cocktail party on a boat (cause ya know, I go to those ALL THE TIME [sarcasm drips like molasses]), or just...anyplace you need to look hot. Because I'm convinced it will make all of us look hot!

If that dress isn't really your style, maybe go a little more casual with this cute multi-colored halter from Delia's. Now I have to admit, I haven't shopped from Delia's in a really, really long time, but who cares. The dress is cute! I think it would be adorable for a backyard bbq (which down in KY we call "grillin' out"), or just any other time you know you'll be dripping with sweat and would prefer not to have your shorts or pants stuck to you like glue! (This happened to me in NYC yesterday, by the way. I'm sure you wanted to know that.)

Moving along from the dresses, let's check out some cute blouses. Another one from Banana in a similar color pallette as the dress I shared, this lovely blouse doesn't have quite the peacock look going on! I just have to say that I love these colors, singuarly and together. I would probably wear this top to work. The one thing I don't necessarily like about it is the loose, blousy loook it probably has, because I'd be willing to bet they have material gathered in the back with a big binder clip holding it all together (at least on the model photo--I'm so cynical). I feel like those shirts always make people wonder if I'm hiding a baby...but I need not worry since online it only available in an XL (which I won't be ordering) and do not have a BR store in close distance!

And because this shirt (or this type of shirt) looks like you might need a cami to wear beneath, I thought I'd share my favorite cami. It is seamless and from The Limited (which closed near me, boohoo). Often they run a special on these, 2 for $30 or something like that. I love to take advantage of that because I hate spending $24.50 on something that could be considered underpants (to use the word of my little cousin Laurel).

The next item is a blouse I purchased recently, but haven't yet worn. I got it in sweet lavender. I have an interview next week and am considering wearing it under my suit jacket, but am afraid the neckline isn't conservative enough. It isn't low-cut but is it too "over the top"?? Your opinions helpful! :)

And moving right along, we will finish with a cute pair of ballet flats. I would probably never pay this price for a pair of ballet flats, but maybe you would, or can find a comparable substitute. I've been looking for cute flats recently and the best pair I've found were at Payless. Unfortunately I can't find a photo on their website. But anyway--I really like these and wish I could find a less expensive version (or that they'd put these like 65% off).

Fashion Friday: 5th Edition

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. Mine has been decent, aside from the fact that I have procrastinated (and continue to do so, in writing this) writing an Economics paper. It is due tomorrow at 11:59 pm. I have plans tomorrow evening. I better get with the program...but not before I bring you a 5th round of Fashion Friday (I seriously just typed Fashin).

Every woman needs a Little Black Dress. I, however, do not have one. I used to own one but then it became to small for me. This, I'm sure, has little to do with the fact that it was purchased before I was 20 years old and weighed about 110 lbs soaking wet. But I digress. In the search for a nice LBD, I found this one. Classy, sassy, and apparently, "seen on NBC's Today Show!"

While we're looking at dresses, how about something a little more colorful and a little more casual? I saw this in the store last weekend, where I popped in only to return something but left with three new shirts (all bought on sale!). The dress was a no go because they did not have my size.

And while you're shopping at NY and Company, how about this little sump'n'sump'n to throw in your shopping bag? I think it is pretty darn cute and could be dressed up or down. It is not one of the items I bought last weekend.

A post would not be complete without a mention of my precious Target. I went there last Saturday for less than a half hour. Walked out, $67 later, with 2 little bags and some laundry detergent. Granted, half that was spent in replacement heads for my Sonicare toothbrushes, but whatever, I gotta show my Target some love. Case in point: this nice ruffle-y cami/tank. At $21 it is a little steep for Target, but when I figure J. Crew would try to charge $88 for the same thing, I think it is a good bargain.

Speaking of J.Crew, I don't mean to hate or discriminate. In fact, I've got my eye on this tee. The flowers add a little something extra, don't ya think? (+5 if you can quote that movie)

This last item comes from American Eagle, a store from which I purchase very little these days. I have kind of deemed myself "too old" to be shopping there, which isn't the case because I know plenty of people still in their undergrad at my age who probably shop there, or work there, or both. And I'm kind of lying because I don't know anyone my age who is still in their undergrad, shopping at American Eagle. But whatever. I don't lie about the things that matter!

Now, my dear Fashion Friday friends, this next item serves a very important purpose. I was so...at a loss for words when I saw these babies online...that I just had to share them with you. I simply could not resist the temptation! I knew you would love them! Please, let these crop pants be a lesson to you...WHAT NOT TO WEAR!

They're like pants your grandmother would wear, on a day when you'd be embarassed to be seen with her. And I just can't bring myself to link them. I'm sure you clever kids can figure it out! :)

Fashion Friday: 4th Edition

Welcome to the 4th edition of Fashion Friday (which perhaps might also known as "the BLOUSE edition")!

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of difficulty selecting tops/shirts/blouses, whatever you choose to call them. I think that is why I have many cardigans, turtlenecks, and button downs. I guess it seems like you can't go wrong with those, but sometimes they seem so...boring. The top is always the piece that leaves me standing at my closet in the morning, thinking "I have nothing to wear." So earlier in the week, I did a little "window" shopping for some blouses (I didn't buy anything, I promise!). I saved them all to share with you here!

My first stop on the inter-webs was BananaRepublic.com...where I found so much goodness! Wish I had some coupons!

A little pricey for a halter (IMO at least)! Why is it that items made of less fabric cost MORE? Ack! I might wear it with some pants like the model is wearing, some dark capris, cute khakis, a denim skirt...it could go with anything, really!

Probably the most fav of all the items posted here today! I love this shade of green and love the detail at the top. It is simple yet it isn't boring. I think it might look nice under my croc J.Crew jacket (perhaps--do you think the necklines would be overkill?). It also comes in a red/coral as well as a lighter blue color. Wish it came in purple!

This isn't exactly the most practical item, but I was drawn to it! I kept going back to look at it...I'm thinkin' it has to be the pink. I'm a fan of pink, in case you hadn't noticed. I'm not sure I could justify spending ~$70 on it and not even be able to wear it to work though...

I have to thank Chriselda for turning me onto this one. I asked her about something to wear to a wedding and she mentioned something "like this." I think that necklace is a great compliment to it, but I know I would not want to wear it tucked in like mizz skinny-homegirl-model up there.

And finally, the most affordable of all...NY&C! I had to write them last week and give them a piece of my mind. I wrote that I gave them plenty of my $$ both in-store and online and I would appreciate if they'd upgrade their crap-$#& order tracking system (only I said it much nicer and more eloquently, but you can be sure I got my point across). I also mentioned how I had NO problems tracking orders from J.Crew, Piperlime, and Old Navy. The response? "Please simply copy your tracking number at fedex.com. I am so sorry for your inconvenience." That's right you are. Hehehe :P

Alright peeps--that's it for now! I can't really keep my eyes open. I was tired at five after 10...I should have just gone to bed then, because I will pay for this tomorrow. I hope you all have a Happy Friday! :)

Fashion Friday: 3rd Edition

Hi guys (whoever you are)!

Let me just tell you something. Since doing this Fashion Friday thing...well, I've bought some stuff. Last week I mentioned the J.Crew dress. So disappointing :( It has these weird pleats that cause it to stick out around my belly. I can't imagine it would really flatter even the best body! I wanted it to work, but I think I'm going to have to return it.

I also purchased the blue blouse & pin I showed you last week, the hot pink scarf I showed you in the first edition of FF, and the J Crew jacket, Old Navy jacket, and the cardigan I showed you in this post. I wore the J Crew jacket yesterday and received numerous compliments. For other reasons, I have also now dubbed it my lucky jacket :) At any rate--I think I need to curb my shopping habits!

However, let's carry on, shall we?

The first hot item I show you today comes from Express. I used to frequent Express well, quite frequently, but not so much these days. Their prices go up and their pieces are getting trendier and "young." However, this nice cowl neck in deep purple is casual but also says "I tried a little." It comes in an array of colors.

This is basically the same item, but striped. When I find something I like though, I tend to buy it in multiple colors. No lie. Oh and right now, these are buy one get one 50% off.

This item comes from White House Black Market, a store from which I've purchased nothing--I window shop! I've been swooning over this dress for a few months now, but I'm not sure I'd get much wear out of it (plus the price isn't exactly a steal). I really like dresses in theory, but to be honest I don't wear them much. In fact I couldn't tell you the last time I wore a dress (I think it was last June).

In other news I don't think I mentioned...I went darker at the salon last week. It was a big change. I'm getting used to it but at first I was NOT HAPPY--which is kind of crazy since it is closer to my natural color. It is just odd after seeing your hair a certain way for so long. Maybe I'll have some pics to share soon.

Lastly, I'd been lusting over this dress after seeing it on Polyvore.com weeks ago. I couldn't find this particular color on the J Crew site, but Wednesday morning...I found it! In hindsight, I think I should have ordered both the 4P and the 6P and just returned one of them. I only ordered the 4P, and I'm worried it isn't gonna fit. Cross your fingers for me that it does because the dress is nowhere to be found on the site now. Apparently I wasn't the only one lusting over it! (also, give me mad props--original price was $188 and I got it for $79.99 + student discount! SCORE!)

Fashion Friday: 1st Edition

So let's see if I can keep up with one MORE thing! :)

First things first...I got the idea for Fashion Friday from Big Mama over at The Big Mama Blog. When I went to the site, I was expecting something out of "Big Mama's House." Well, I was wrong.

Big Mama is not at all a Big Mama. She's actually a cute Texan with a southern accent I can relate to ;) She takes fashion questions and does something called Fashion Friday where she gives her advice (which is quite good and has put a dent in my wallet on more than one occasion, I must admit).

I don't plan on doing the same thing. I'd never copy someone when it comes to fashion (and if you know me, you know this is a bold-faced lie. Bold-faced? Bald-faced? I digress). First of all, I don't even think enough people read this blog to even ask fashion questions. Second, I might suck at it and cause people to leave their house dressed ridiculously and well, I wouldn't want that to happen to someone else. Happens to me all the time but I just suck it up and silently give on-lookers the middle finger in my mind ;)

I personally plan to show you some things out there that I consider "hot items." Things I'm hoping to add to my wardrobe. Now, you may not consider them to be hot items, and that is okay. But if you do, then I just saved you the trouble of searching for a hot item, right? Right!

Let's get started, shall we?

The first item I'd like to share is my first Big Mama-inspired purchase. This was also my first-ever purchase from Nordstrom. I thought I did okay! Unfortunately--I was wrong. It is on it's way back to Nordstrom land, where it can be purchased by someone who can still, in fact, wear a junior's medium without having their armpits feel as though they're being strangled. Not that that happened to me or anything.

The second item could also be considered Big Mama-inspired, since I wouldn't have known about it had I not hopped on over to Nordstrom's website. I have not purchased this beautiful ensemble but I've got my eye on it. It completely reminds me of my friend Becca. It also makes me think DERBY! Unfortunately it is not going to ship until early June. That is clearly after the Ky Derby (not that I'm going, I ain't that rich just yet peeps)...and also, I have a wedding to attend in late May and thought this would have been cute. Sad day for my closet, happy day for my wallet.

While we're in the mood for dresses, let's check out this hot item. I LOVE the color and find the design of this dress to be quite classy. You can find this item at Newport-News.

You may be wondering why I keep saying hot item. I'll explain later. But it is a good story.

Also from Newport-News, this hot camisole/halter! I'm not 100% sold on it yet, because I'm not sure where I'd wear it. However, I do know I'd pair this with some super dark jeans, black patent peep toes, and a black chunky bracelet. Oh and a TAN. Maybe I should just buy it and create a reason to wear it!

Some days, I just wanna go cas...ok, most days. I really want to get this (or one of it's siblings) because I keep hearing so many good things about these "ringspun" tees from J.Crew. I am anxious to see it in person. You see, I have some J.Crew tops that look similar, but I purchased them at an outlet. I love the material/fit but the necks on them look terrible--so stretched. Anyway, I really like this next one, and it might be my trial run. It might also be acceptable under the coral jacket I posted in a recent post...hmm...

Now, if I wanted to jazz up the plain-jane-grey-tee, I might add this cute and spunky hot pink scarf from Target. I don't know about you, but I love me some Target. They always have plenty I need (and even more that I don't!) Anyway, I love scarves, so I know I'd get a ton of use out of this hot item!

Last, but certainly not least, black workout pants! My husband says I can never have enough black workout pants (and believe me, that is another lie).
